Well, what a great night. Thanks sooooo much to all the people who came to the meet and greet, and also those that came to the club night. And a massive hug goes to those who went to both!
We all had an amazing night, and I hope you did too! We loved meeting everyone, and can't wait to get to know everyone over the coming year!
Enjoy the rest of Freshers Week!

Hello and welcome!
Dear All.
How are you? Hope you are fine and fabulous, and all ready for a great new year with us. We have made lots of plans for the year and we hope you'll be able to join us. But to start the year off, we'll first be having a Meet and Greet at the JCR this Thursday, the 1st of October 2009 at 8pm. This will then be followed by a massive cross-University of London-GBLT Club Night, in Holborn at 10pm. This will be a great opportunity to catch up and meet new people and we sincerely hope to see you there!
See you on Thursday. In the meantime, have a great Sunday and a good start to the week.
Love from,
the SOAS GBLT Society

Shooting in Tel Aviv
Recently there was a shooting in Tel Aviv at a Youth Centre for Gay Teens and resulted in the death of two people. This is truly a step backwards in terms of making it safe for GBLT youths and we must do all we can to show solidarity with the repressed (and violently treated!) GBLT youngsters of the world.

India de-criminalises Gay Sex!
Just a spot of good news for the GBLT community of India. A high court in Delhi has declared that homosexual intercourse between two consenting adults is no longer a criminal act. This comes after 148 years of a colonial law which prescribes homosexual sex as illegal.
Congratulations to the people of India and this we're sure provides much inspiration to other GBLT communities around the world.

Summer is HERE!
Dear All!
Hope the exams went well for everyone and that you've all been enjoying your liberated state of being!
Am sure everyone has their plans for the summer and that's great! If you're travelling, have a wonderful trip. If you're chilling on here, enjoy your selves. If you're heading home, sit back and relax! Whatever it is, we'll see you in again in September!
I got an email yesterday (which I thought I'd share with you) from a gay Malaysian who was telling me about the sexuality movement in Malaysia (Seksualiti Merdeka: translates as Liberate Sexuality) and the country will be having it's second pride march this year, together with street parties and family-oriented activities. I was very impressed, having grown up in Malaysia, to hear of these forward approaches in bringing the GBLT community into the wider society of the country (which is generally regarded as highly religious and conservative). Anyway, thought I'd share that with you.
Have a great summer and we'll touch-base soon!
We'll be posting events and shoutouts as they come along.

Hello!
Sorry for not posting up for some time - it has been a busy week with revision, last minute classes and upcoming exams. Hope everyone is getting by with all that! We had a lovely picnic last Sunday and we'd like to thank all who came, brought food, ate food and had a lovely time. If anyone has any pictures, please send them on to us! :)
There is a Gay-Cure Conference happening in London today! The society is against the forceful treatment of homosexulaity but on this particular conference, am sure a lot of people have something to say. This is the FaceBook Event calling for a demonstration, if anyone would like to participate - http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=559790124&ref=profile#/event.php?eid=71287658602&ref=share
And BBC has reported it too if you would like to have a read: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/8015711.stm
All the best with your exams and revision. Get plenty of sleep and enough sustenance! Good luck, our beautiful friends.

Greetings and Welcome!
Dear friends and family,
Welcome to our new blog - a place for you to read up on what we have to say about our lovely community at SOAS, and indeed in the wider world (and it's a more colourful alternative to Facebook!).
We'll shout out about anything - be it the latest films/books that may interest you, some activities that will be coming up (don't forget to have a look-see at our calender), or maybe even something you would like to share with us (contact us via our email: soasgblt@googlemail.com).
You'll be hearing from us from time to time and we hope to hear from you soon too!
Have a wonderful week and all the best,
Row (Co-President)
